My name is Lauren Boucher (yes, like Bobby Boucher :)), and I am an Instructional Technology Specialist in Eastern North Carolina. I work with students and teachers who are making the move to 1:1 classrooms using iPads and Chromebooks. My favorite part about my job is getting to show teachers awesome new tools to make their lives easier and their teaching more engaging, and tools that are just plain fun for all involved. And if I‘m being honest, I love teaching a 45 minute lesson and then going back to my “office”. I’m also thrilled with the opportunity to immerse myself in technology. I truly love my job and can’t believe I actually get paid to have this much fun!
Since beginning this position in the summer of 2012, I have learned a great deal. My initial professional development plan consisted only of great tools and implementation ideas. Although the teachers seemed to really enjoy my trainings, when I went into the classrooms, I didn’t see them using anything I had shared. How disappointing. Through taking courses at East Carolina University (Go Pirates!) and going to the School of Hard Knocks these past two years, I have learned that although the tools are completely awesome, if the focus is taken off of instruction, I’m not going to get too far. Hopefully through this blog, I’ll not only be able to share those neat websites, extensions, and tech tools, but keep the focus on instruction.
Now about my life outside of Instructional Technology and Design: my husband and I were married in January of 2008, and we have a beautiful little boy who keeps us laughing and on our toes. Right now we are totally Dave Ramsey obsessed and are working his Baby Steps. If you’ve never heard of him, check him out! As I mentioned earlier, I’m currently working on an additional license for technology in the classroom, and I’m SO ready to be done. I have a much higher respect for teachers who are working full-time and going back to school. It’s HARD!
I started this blog in order to share my knowledge about instructional technology, specifically how to incorporate device management procedures, how to use social media with your students, Web 2.0 tools that motivate and engage your students, how to incorporate iPads and other devices into daily instruction, and various ways to make your life as a teacher easier. I love presenting to other teachers, and I’m hoping that this blog will give me a little exposure so that I can do that more often. Most recently I became a presenter for Simple K12, and I’ve presented a few of webinars through that site. If you’re not familiar with that website, I HIGHLY recommend you check it out! Additionally, I‘m am a SMART Exemplary Educator and a Certified SMART Lesson Developer. I love all things SMART Technologies! I’m looking forward to sharing what I’m learning and getting your feedback and ideas! Thank you for joining me on this adventure in blogging!
